Bandaisan Eruption Memorial Hall in Inawashiro-machi, Fukushima Prefecture, was built to convey the history and nature of Bandaisan as well as the memory of the areas affected by the volcanic eruption. Bandai is a beautiful mountain known as one of the three most famous mountains in Japan, but its eruption caused a tragedy that killed many people. In this memorial hall, visitors can recount the history of the eruption and learn about the nature and history of Bandai-san.
Inside the museum, there are exhibits using models, videos, and photographs. A model of the eruption realistically depicts the hot ash and rocks flying off the volcano. In addition, photographs and items from the area affected by the eruption are on display to give visitors an idea of the conditions that existed at the time. In addition, legends about Bandai-san and the ecosystem of Bandai-san are also introduced.
Around the memorial center, there are many sightseeing spots in Bandai-Asahi National Park. Visitors can enjoy trekking courses to appreciate the natural beauty of Mt. Bandai, drive along the Bandai-Azuma Skyline, and visit Bandai Town, which is known as a hot spring resort. The Bandaisan Eruption Memorial Museum plays a major role in providing visitors to Bandaisan with a deeper understanding of the mountain's charms.
